Spooky Hospital Incident

By: Anonymous Story Submission
I remember this incident vividly despite it happening when I was still a kid. In fact most of my memories relating back to my childhood is fuzzy or I can’t remember much about it such as my primary school days.
I was admitted to KK hospital and was warded in those wards with animals painted on the walls. Beside me is a child who was hooked up to several tubes and was always looking towards my side.  Regrettably, I would often draw the curtain to hide myself away from others including her. This is an action that I regret till today, seeing as how that action of mine possibly deny her the chance of seeing the outside world.
I was young and don’t really know what is actually going on with me except that it is really serious. I was suffering from asthma than and was suspected to have a hole in the heart.  My parents than were extremely worried and would often take turns staying in the hospital to be by my side.  It so happen one night that I would suffer from an asthma attack and luckily I survived that ordeal. However what I remember most from that ordeal is not the effect it have on my body but rather the dreamlike sequence I had.
In my dream than, I was at the lobby of the hospital where in the years when i was warded. People would often handle their administrative stuff or collect their medicine from there if I’m not wrong.  So in my dream, I was around that area and I was wandering around whereby i chanced upon a person in a wheelchair.
That person whom was on the wheelchair was beckoning me to go over to him. He was wearing a hood over his head and I couldn’t make out his face as well. All I know is that he was draped in a navy blue overall with a hood as well.
Thinking back, i guess i was lucky that i rejected his advance and walk away as the incident that stood out the most for me in this dream was that I actually saw the initials indicated on the side of the wheelchair… SA TAN

God knows what would had happened if I had walked towards that figure in my dreams back than.

Haunted Villisca Axe Murder Mystery House

Villisca happened to be a peaceful community until June 10, 1912, when eight bloody corpses were found in a mysterious house. The victims of the tragedy included the members of the J.B. Moore family, and two guests.

It still continues to be a mystery, and it has been almost 90 years now.

All that was not about the murder-mystery was a brutal confrontation, in which the killer had crushed the heads of the members of Moore family with an axe, but he was never caught, nor could anyone find evidence against the killer.
We visited the place during the month of June, which falls under the tour season, and museum timings are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, so we started at about 10:30 am in the morning. Darwin arranges for the visit, and you are given the entry to the place, on first-come-first-serve basis.

Apparently, the place was not just haunted in past, but it’s still haunted till date, and when we visited the place, we had a sceptical feeling of being watched by someone secretly, and that the killer will probably come back to lay off more skulls.

There are two places worth your visit which include the famous Villisca Axe Murder house as well as the House Olson-Linn Museum, which is located at the Villisca Town Square.

During our visit to the Villisca Axe Murder house, Darwin walked us through the place, and though you may not find it scary right away, Darwin’s expressions and way of explaining things make it a scary deal for sure. When he mentioned about the door and the closet where the Moore family members were murdered, we got an off feeling of door opening slowly, and we noticed some white light coming from the closet through the crack between the door frames. Suddenly, we felt that the door closed back again, and as though the killer had got a glimpse of all of us.

If you’re weak hearted, then surely this is not a good place for you. By the way, you can grab a bite at the cafĂ© in town as well. Anyways, it costs just $10 per person to pay a visit to the Villisca Axe Murder House as well as the museum (no fee for children below 12 years, but carrying them is not advisable).

Well, continuing with our visit of Villisca Axe Murder House, we enjoyed the overall experience, and we tried to visualize the past, and it surely was a hell of an experience. My wife wasn’t really moved too much by the story, (she’s hard to convince for anything though), but my little daughter got pretty scared, and except for the odd moments when we felt like being watched, it was not that exceptional though.

You can find good literature about the past of the Villisca Axe Murder case in the museum, and we weren’t really moved by anything else in the museum. Overall, a good place to visit, if you’re bugged with usual trips and definitely recommendable for those who love hearing about murder mysteries and scary things.

Real Scary Child Boy Ghost In Amityville

In an interview with George Lutz IN 2003, he was asked about this photo, and here is his reply. George Lutz and his family were the ones tormented in Amityville.
The first time that picture was shown was on the Merv Griffin show back in 1979. It was discovered 3 years after it was taken. Gene Campbell, who was a professional photographer, was brought into the house in 1976 when the Warrens went in with their team. He set up an automatic camera on the 2nd floor landing that shot off infrared film, black and white, throughout the night. There are literally rolls of film with nothing on them. There's only one picture of the little boy. In 1979, I was putting together a book that has yet to be published that included the photographs.

The secretary I had at the time was about eight months pregnant. We had dozens of these pictures to choose from that didn't have the boy, and she asked me: "Which one should we put in the book?" I told her to just pick one. She came running back into my office about 5 minutes later saying that every time she picked up the photograph with the boy, the baby kicked her. We then asked my kids if they knew who this was. Missy said it was the little boy she used to play with in the house. I then called the Warrens and the photographer and let them know about the picture."

The ghostly image seems to match the youngest DeFeo family member who was murdered in the house.

The Dark Side Of Disneyland: Is The Happiest Place on Earth Haunted?

Haunted Mansion Disneyland

The Dark Side Of Disneyland: Is The Happiest Place on Earth Haunted?

One could fill an encyclopedia with all of Disneyland’s hidden worlds and histories.
Since 1955 over 600 million people have walked through Disneyland’s magical gates. But legend has it that some of them never left. You see, Disneyland is said to be one of the most haunted areas in California. Guests and cast members alike have come forth with bizarre stories of the supernatural inside the walls of Disneyland.

AMAZING GHOST CAUGHT ON DISNEYLAND SECURITY CAMERA!

Anyone who’s somewhat familiar with the parks history understands that beneath the magic is an even more fascinating network of underground tunnels filled with dark secrets and paranormal sightings. There have been over 10 reported deaths at Disneyland: including a drowning, an impaling, and many other freakish accidents.

What most people don’t know is that there are remnants of dead bodies scattered all over Disneyland. In recent years, it has become incredibly common for families to dispose of their loved ones’ ashes on Disneyland rides, most popularly on Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. Apparently it happens so often that security guards actually had to institute a procedure for handling it. Guards closely monitor the ride through surveillance cameras and even walk the length of the track after-hours to look for suspicious piles of ash and bone fragments. There was reportedly even a jawbone found by a custodian in The Haunted Mansion.
In the book Mouse Tales, former Disneyland employee David Koenig tells the story of a tourist group that requested a little extra time on the ride so they could hold a quick memorial for their deceased son. The ride was shut down when they were spotted pouring his ashes off of the Doom Buggy.

Is it possible that all these deaths and memories have left a paranormal energy behind? There are hundreds of ghosts sighting every year in Disneyland. Mostly the employees working on the attractions report strange occurrences, such as the lights turning on and off by themselves, and the animatronics moving when the electricity is off. At night on the Pirates of the Caribbean the ride operators can sometimes see an apparition riding one of the boats on the video monitors, but when they check it out there is nothing there.
Then there’s Space Mountain: both the ride itself and the employee locker rooms are haunted by the ghost of “Mr. One-Way”, a guest who died on the Space Mountain ride back in the 1970s. On the ride, he is described as a large man with reddish hair and a red face, and has been seen by guests getting into a car with a lone rider, but he vanishes before the end of the ride.

Located between Buffalo and Rochester, Rolling Hills Asylum's enormous 53,000+ sq. ft. brick building sits on a knoll in the hamlet of E. Bethany, N.Y. and has been a popular destination for ghost hunters for many years. Opened on January 1, 1827 and originally named The Genesee County Poor Farm, it was created by Genesee County to house those eligible for assistance including paupers, habitual drunkards, lunatics, the blind, lame or otherwise handicapped, orphans, widows, vagrants, and even a murderer or two. In the 1950s it became the Old County Home & Infirmary, and then in the 1990s was transformed into a set of shops and later an antiques mall. When the property owners, vendors and shoppers began to notice strange occurrences, a paranormal group was called into investigate and Rolling Hills' spooky reputation was born. Reports include disembodied voices, doors mysteriously held shut, screams in the night, shadow people and more.Rolling Hills Case Manager, Suzie Yencer relates one chilling experience: "It was September 2007. While working a public hunt, we had a gentleman with us that was filming a documentary about the building. He wanted to try an experiment in one of the rooms. The room he chose was in the basement, popularly known as The Christmas Room. The experiment he wanted to try was to sit in the room with no lights or equipment on. The only light we would use was a pink glow stick in the middle of a circle of people. We also placed a small ball and a toddler size rocking horse in the circle. The gentleman conducting the experiment requested that only I talk and try to make contact with the spirits. The more I talked, the more strange occurrences began to happen. The glow stick started to move back and forth, and the rocking horse began to slowly rock. A few of the guests in the room including myself saw a hand and arm come out of nowhere and reach for the ball in the circle and then just vanish...."
The Rolling Hills website provides more details and information about ghost hunts and other events.

University of Montevallo

Montevallo, Alabama

University of Montevallo

The University of Montevallo first opened its doors in 1896 as the Alabama Girls' Industrial School. It later became a technical school and eventually a co-ed college offering traditional courses of study.
Less conventional are its tales of ghosts, which are said to haunt the campus's King House, Main Dorm and the King House Cemetery. Here are some of the stories:
  • You've heard of "death by chocolate"? Well, in 1908 a sophomore student was making fudge in the Main Dorm when her nightgown caught fire. She died soon after of the injuries, but her ghost has been heard moaning and screaming in the hallway. And an image of her burning face on the wooden door of her dorm room -- a sight so disturbing that it had to be removed and put away.
  • Mr. Edmund King is said to haunt the grounds of King House, a building he constructed in 1823. It is said in life he wandered the house, orchard and cemetery with a lantern. Today, people attest to seeing the lights and curtains move in the house. And other unexplained lights have been seen in the orchard and cemetery. According to legend, Mr. King is searching for the money and silver he buried on the property.

Peoria State Hospital Historic District, also known as Bartonville State Hospital or Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane, was a psychiatric hospital operated by the State of Illinois from 1902 to 1973. The hospital is located in Bartonville, Illinois, near the city of Peoria in Peoria County. The hospital grounds and its 47 buildings are listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.

History

The hospital was founded as a result of the Illinois General Assembly's provision for the establishment of the Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane in 1895. In response to the legislation, then Governor John Altgeld appointed a three person commission charged with site selection.[3] The commission president was John Finely, a Peorian, and one of the members was J.J. McAndrews of Chicago who later served in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Congressman.[4] The commission selected the site near Peoria, in Bartonville.
Construction at the site started in 1895 with the main building completed in 1897. This building was never used, however, as its structural integrity was compromised by abandoned mine shafts on the property. The 1927 history of the hospital, however, gives a different explanation for its abandonment:
"The first building erected was a facsimile of a feudal castle, but before it was occupied it was found to be wholly out of harmony with modern ideas for the care of the insane and it was razed and replaced by the present cottage plan, under the direction of Dr. Frederick Howard Wines, the able secretary of the State Board of Charities."[4]
In 1902, reconstruction was completed under the direction of Dr. George Zeller as a cottage system plan of 33 buildings . Among the buildings were patient and caretaker housing, a store, apower station, and a communal utility building. [5]
The Illinois Hospital for the Incurable Insane began operations on February 10, 1902 and patients characterized as "incurable" were transferred to Bartonville from other Illinois facilities. In 1906 the hospital opened a training school for nurses. From 1907 to 1909 the facility was known as the Illinois General Hospital for the Insane and, in 1909, Peoria State Hospital.[3][6] This same year, the offices of Board of Commissioners and Board of State Commissioners of Public Charities were abolished and all state-run charitable institutions were administered by the Board of Administration.[clarification needed][3]
On the hospital's 25th anniversary in 1927, the population was 2,650 with a total of 13,510 patients having entered the facility. [4] During this time, Dr. Zeller was widely respected for his focus on therepeutic efforts. Zeller crusaded for a better public understanding of the mentally ill including inviting newspaper reporters and community members to visit Peoria State.[6] From 1943 until 1969 the hospital participated in a departmental affiliation program for psychiatric nursing which provided instruction in psychiatric nursing to students from regional general hospital nursing schools.[3]
From 1917 until 1961 the hospital was operated by the Illinois Department of Public Welfare. In 1961 the Department of Mental Health was created and assumed responsibility of the institution.[3]
At its peak in the 1950s, Bartonville housed 2,800 patients. By 1972 when its closure was announced, the patient census had dropped to 600.[6] After the hospital closed, the buildings stood empty and were auctioned off. When the initial auction buyer went bankrupt, developer, Winsley Duran Jr., took over ownership with the hope of creating office space in the structures. His plan was never fully realized and the buildings remained empty. Since that time, many of the remaining structures have been demolished and others were renovated to house various commercial and industrial businesses. The Village of Bartonville has established the entire property as a TIF district to encourage further growth and development of the property.[citation needed]
The Bowen, or administration, building is currently under the ownership of the "Save the Bowen Foundation," a group seeking to raise funds to renovate the exterior of the building.[5]

Architecture

The grounds consists of 47 buildings, many of which are residential in nature and laid out to the traditional cottage plan, common for mental hospitals built in the early 20th century.[2] The original main building constructed was on theKirkbride Plan.
The hospital grounds are the subject of local ghost lore. One well documented legend tells of Manuel A. Bookbinder "Old Book", a patient who worked with the burial crew at the hospital until his own death. It is said that upon his death his physical form was seen by Dr. Zeller and over a hundred of the patients and nurses that attended his funeral crying at the old elm in the potters field. A closer inspection of the casket for which he rested showed the peaceful remains of the loved figure still resting within, thus the legend of the "Graveyard Elm" began.[5]
In the 1920s, Zeller penned a book titled, Befriending The Bereft, drawn from the mysterious experiences he had at the hospital during his two tenures as superintendent, 1902–1913 and 1921–1935. Included, among numerous other eerie stories, were Zeller's own account of Old Book and the Gr

Blood Cemetery

My name is Drew, and in late August in 1966, two friends of mine Dan and Tom asked me to go with them to a party on the beach at Lake Michigan. I was about 15 years old at that time. Ghost stories were being told around the campfire by almost everyone their, most of which I had already heard.

As the night went on a young girl about 17 years old started telling a story about a family of Doctor’s with the last name of Blood. It was out on Round Lake Rd near Dewitt, MI, about 100 miles from the beach party, but only 20 miles from my home in Lansing. The Bloods had a lot of land where the whole family lived. The most interesting part was that they had a private graveyard on the property and that the whole area was haunted. She said that she saw gravestones that dated back to1800.

On their prom night she and some of her friends decided to go out to the Cemetery. They looked around at the headstones for a while. As it started to get dark the fog hung thick, and a full moon was rising so they started trying to scare each other. Then the young girls’ prom date decided to go into Dr. Blood’s house because he thought no one lived there any longer. They waited about an hour or so, and when he didn’t return they got scared and headed for the Dewitt police department. When they went in to tell the police, the officer on duty said "don’t you kids know any better, old Dr. Blood lives out there and he doesn’t like anyone trespassing on his property". He also went onto say that he thought "Dr. Blood was harmless and he’s in his 80’s" so, he didn’t think there would be any problem. They all returned to the property, but to everyone’s shock when they got back, the whole house were ablaze. The fire department was called, but in vane, because the house burnt to the ground. The next day there was a search party, but the only thing that was found in the rubble were the remains of the young man that had gone into the house the night before. The paper reported that his hands and feet had been bound. Dr. Blood’s remains were never found.

One of the searchers that afternoon found a freshly dug grave, when they unearthed it, a pine coffin was found. Upon opening it, they found the body of Mrs. Blood. She was dressed in a red gown, with her arms; legs and head cut off. There had been no coroner’s report of a body being buried there, or any police report of any murder.

The girl at the campfire that night said that the ghost of Dr Blood; to this day roams the cemetery at night, with a shotgun in one hand, and an ax in the other.

That night was the last time I ever heard or saw the young girl who first told me about Blood Cemetery, but it wouldn’t be my last experience with the Blood family.

My Story

After I returned from Lake Michigan, I told some of my friends the story I had heard, some told me there own stories, about how they had been scared out at the cemetery. Mark said he had seen a ghost of an old man wandering the graveyard as if he was lost. Another friend said that he saw an apparition of an elderly man carrying a body and it appeared to be headless and armless.

Another 2 years would go by, before I got the nerve to visit this so-called haunted Cemetery. You see I never quite believed these "ghost stories", until I saw the most BLOOD CHILLING things myself.

The first time I went there was with Dan and JC. It was a steamy hot July night. The moon was big and full and it lit up the night sky as if it were daylight, the fog was drifting over the Cemetery as it rolled in from the lake. The feeling in the air was electrifying.

At the entrance to the Cemetery were two old rusted iron gates, and hanging above was a sign saying Blood Cemetery. By the light of the moon you could see the old grave stones. Some had been toppled over, and some were broken. The weeds were about knee high. There was a smell of jasmine in the air.

After looking around for a few minutes, I decided to scare the two of them. I had taken one of my mother’s old white nightgowns and I hung it from a fence post when I was sure they weren’t looking. There was a slight breeze in the air that night and I thought it would look like it was floating in the breeze. Just as I was about to put my plan into action, I heard JC scream. Dan and I went running over, he told us that he had seen a woman’s figure in a long red gown. He said that she appeared to be headless and armless, and was coming right toward him, when she disappeared into thin air. I thought that he had seen the gown I had hung on the post. I took Dan and JC over to see where I had hung the old nightgown, and surely what JC had saw was my little joke, but when we got there the gown was gone.

Feeling a little spooked from what JC had thought he’d seen we started our way out of the Cemetery to leave. On our way out I said to Dan, who was quit a bit taller that me, pull the sign down, and we’ll take it home with us.

Our night at Blood Cemetery was pretty uneventful, except for the woman in the red gown. We went back to Dan’s farmhouse, where he lived with his Mom, Dad, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. It was late when we got there, so the 3 of us went to bed, after putting the sign on top of Dan’s dresser. The next morning when we got up we had breakfast and got cleaned up, Dan told his father about the sign we took the night before. With instant anger, his father demanded to see the sign. But this task proved not to be so easy, because when we went to the bedroom to get it, IT WAS GONE. Dan questioned his brothers and sisters, and they all swore they hadn’t seen it, let alone take it.

After a couple of day’s, of looking we were sure that Dan’s brothers and sister’s had nothing to do with the missing sign. We drove back out to Round Lake. When we got to the Cemetery, there it was hanging above the old rusty gates was the sign we had taken two nights before, looking like it had never been disturbed.

Several more years had gone by, when I ran into some friends at a restaurant, on Halloween night. They talked me into going out there again. (After all it was HALLOWEEN) When we got there the weeds were about chest high and the fences were falling down. One of the guys in the group called us over; he was shining his flashlight on a headstone. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. There lying over the grave was a large piece of glass about 6 feet long, and about 2 feet deep, incased in it were a dozen long stem roses imbedded in the center.

Just about that time we heard a shotgun blast. We ran back to our vehicles, and the right side of Dan’s car had been shot, and the windows had been shattered. Needless to say we got the hell out of there. With people seeing ghosts, hearing things, and the car being shot up. I swore I would NEVER go back out there again. But I’ve learned you should (NEVER SAY, NEVER.)

When I was about 26 or 27 years old, I was riding with some motorcycle enthusiasts. It was a beautiful June day; the skies were blue and clear. It was hot, but who cares when you’re on your bike. My girl friend Chris rode with me on the back of my bike. She had heard so many stories about the Blood family, she decided to bring a camera with her. We looked around at the rundown graveyard, and Chris was taking pictures, after a few hours we decided to leave, and all of us started down Round Lake Rd. We were about 150 yards from the Cemetery and Chris and I hit a snapping turtle. The bike went out of control and we crashed into a tree. I suffered only minor injuries, but Chris had broken her back, and was paralyzed from the waist down. She was able to walk again after a couple of years, with the aid of crutches. (The curse of Blood Cemetery had struck again)

I’ve since heard lots of stories since our terrible accident.
In 1989, 2 high school girls were out to have some fun on Halloween night. The news reported that their car went out of control about a 1/4 of a mile from the Cemetery. Their car plunged into Round Lake and they (both drowned.)

The County has now put up hurricane fence around the Cemetery, with razor wire strung along the top.

And I’ve learned that at least 4 or 5 Blood son’s from each generation have become Doctor’s for the last 150 years.

And a couple of years ago, Lansing named one of their Halloween haunted house’s after Blood Cemetery.

If you’re ever out on Round Lake Rd, and you see a full moon rising, DON’T visit Blood Cemetery.

Highgate Cemetery

North London, England - opened in 1839

Highgate Cemetery
Highgate Cemetery
Besides having such famous people buried there as Karl Marx, Douglas Adams, and the parents of Charles Dickens, Highgate Cemetery has long been known for its ghosts, sinister activities, and other strangeness, including:
  • The most famous spook in this cemetery is The Highgate Vampire, who is not really a vampire in the classic sense, but a phantom that is described as a 7-foot-tall, dark male figure with piercing, hypnotic eyes and wearing a long black coat and high top hat; he seems to vanish into thin air. There have been several dozen sightings and encounters since the late 1960s.
  • A man whose car broke down near the cemetery came face to face with a ghoul with glowimg red eyes that peered at him through the graveyard's iron gates.
  • The ghost of an insane old woman has been seen racing among the gravestones, her gray hair flowing behind her as she searches for her children, whom she allegedly murdered.
  • A dark shrouded figure has been see standing stock still and staring into space. When it is approached, it vanishes then reappears a short distance away, still staring into the void.
  • A businessman was terrified by a phantom that jumped over the fence and landed right in front of him. He described it as having pointed ears, glowing eyes, and large nose. This might have been the infamous Spring-Heeled Jack.
  • The floating ghost of a nun has been seen passing over the graves.

The Sallie House

Written By: Todd Bates, Haunted Voices

Submitted By:jeff

In the heartland of America there is a quiet little town called Atchison, Kansas. This small town is tucked away into a small valley off the banks of the Missouri river. By looking at this small town, you would never think twice about it being extremely haunted by a mysterious past. One area that stands out from all the rest is nicknamed the "Sallie House". This small 2 story colonial style home looks to be a perfect starter home for a small family, but in reality, this house is not as empty as it appears to be.

In August of 2004, I had the honor of investigating this known haunt in Atchison with Haunted Times Magazine owner Chris Moon. Upon our arrival to the house I stepped out of the vehicle and immediately sensed an overwhelming feeling emitting from the small house. I knew right then that it was not going to be a normal investigation, and I was correct. Haunted Voices returned to the house in February of 2005. I felt compelled to return to the house, although I still could not tell you why, it was a feeling that couldn’t just be ignored. The Haunted Voices Investigation team was accompanied by Debra and Tony Pickman who had lived in the house in the early 90’s and experienced some strange and horrific phenomena while living there. Tony was repeatedly scratched by an unknown entity. Both Debra and Tony experienced objects moving as well as items catching on fire before their eyes. It was an honor to have them with us for the investigation and I was quite shocked when Debra asked me if Tony could join us.

Tony has not been inside of this home for over 10 years, in fear that he might be attacked once again. I hesitated for a few minutes and thought to myself, "Would this be safe for him?", "What if something goes terribly wrong?" After talking to Deb and advising her that it would not be a good idea, we decided to let him try to re-enter the home that had haunted him for several years. He chose to enter the house against our recommendations and took full responsibility for his actions.

Tony arrived at the house in the early evening hours and was eager to get started. You really have to get to know Tony before you can judge him at all. Tony is one of the most interesting and talented individuals I have ever known. He is a very private person and is somewhat shy when it comes to meeting new people, but this didn’t stop him from confronting his violent past. Before entering the house with him we all stood on the front porch and joined hands in prayer asking for guidance and protection for us all. It wasn’t until later that Michael Chappell (our video operator) captured one of the most disturbing pieces of evidence that I have ever seen.

Tony entered the home with Deb and I very close by him and began his visit. He made his way to the kitchen and stopped for a few seconds to take in his surroundings, noting all of the changes that had been made while reminiscing out loud with us. We then made our way through the dining and living rooms where he stopped once again and told us how their furniture and things were placed in the house when they lived there. Deb told us the story of the stuffed animal catching fire as well as some other paranormal instances that took place in the house. It was time to make our way upstairs, which happens to be what Tony had feared the most. He led the way upstairs, stopping every once awhile to take in the surroundings and our first stop was the nursery. While in the nursery, Tony seemed very calm and was recalling past events that took place there when their youngest son was an infant.

He saw for the first time, all of the stuffed animals and dolls that were collected over the years and placed on the window sills as a tribute or perhaps just a toy for little "Sallie" to play with. There was quite a collection of them ranging from stuffed teddy bears to very nice collection of small dolls. We soon left the nursery and preceded to the master bedroom which is located at the front of the home.

While in the master bedroom, stories and experiences were shared and Michael kept the camera going to capture as much of the event as possible. Tony began looking around the area and made his way to a small closet; Tony still had a very uneasy feeling of that area and refused to enter it. We all kept a very close eye on him while he toured the home and we could all tell that his moods seemed to change from room to room. When we started in the kitchen he seemed very happy and eager to see the rest of the home, but as we all made our way upstairs his moods had changed to sadness and confusion.

We stayed in the master bedroom and talked for a couple of minutes and while we were talking, Tony stood against the door frame and was very guarded of himself, looking out into the hallway every once in awhile, like he heard or saw something out there. We finished our conversation in the master bedroom and decided to go into the last bedroom. With Deb and Tony leading the way we made our way there. While walking, Michael had stated to me that the camcorder was acting very strange and I advised him that they have done that in the past with our cameras. We stepped out into the hallway and noticed Deb and Tony standing in front of the restroom talking and pointing out some of the changes that had been made since they had been there last. At that time Deb had noticed something on Tony’s arm; it was a cut on his right forearm, and a very deep one at that. I then stated, "That’s it" and took Tony out side and away from the situation.

Michael had captured this whole incident on film and we cannot thank him enough for his excellent work in a very stressful situation such as that. While outside we addressed his wound and found I to be about 2 ½ inches long and deep enough to require stitches. Tony said that he didn’t even feel it and was just as surprised as we were. This was one of the worst injuries that he has received while being inside the home and it was very emotional for all of us to witness. My wife Kris and I had become very close with Deb and Tony and to see him in a situation like that was very upsetting. My wife burst into tears of both anger and sadness and just couldn’t understand why they were doing this to him. We were able to stop the bleeding on Tony’s wound and put a few bandages on it from our first aid kit. I had checked Tony for other marks or scratches and he was untouched other then his right forearm. Tony insisted that we go back into the house and at this time I was in total disagreement but granted him his wishes on one condition; that he would sit in the dinning room and be closely monitored by us. He agreed and we proceeded to the dining room, where he stayed for most of the investigation.
We kept two cameras on Tony and while they were recording Deb had notice several cold spots or sensations by his legs and feet. My wife Kris and our researcher/investigator Pam (who is also my mother in law) went upstairs to place motion detectors as well as video cameras in the area. We had placed a video camera in the nursery to hopefully capture an anomaly or EVP from the nursery area and across the hall to the 3rd bedroom. We had also placed two motion detectors in the area. One was covering the nursery and adjoining hallway and the other monitored the stairs.

After arming the units, we went back downstairs to find Tony sitting comfortably in the chair with Deb right beside him. My wife and a few others from the group had gone outside for a break. We had a total of 3 video cameras monitoring the house, one was upstairs and two were downstairs covering Tony from different angles as well as the kitchen and living room areas. While they were on break Michael and I went to the kitchen area and began to go over some of our evidence, I know the following may sound like a hoax or staged event but I assure you that it is not.

While Tony was sitting still he said he felt something under him in the chair, he leaned up a bit and grabbed the object and it was a remote control, their remote control. The object had been missing in their current house for several weeks and suddenly it appeared in the house they no longer lived in. The remote looked as if someone had taken it in both their right and left hand and twisted it in opposite ways. It was hot and you could smell the plastic burning, I then held the remote up to my ear and could hear a crackling sound as the plastic cooled. This was just amazing and you could see the remote just melting from the inside out. Photos were taken of the evidence and we placed it in an area where it would not be touched and our team members closely monitored it. A similar situation happed to Deb on our last investigation, where her camera that was inside of her purse had melted. This was not a battery problem because the unit was turned off and the burn took place on the opposite side of the battery storage area.

Michael and I were in the kitchen going over our EVR (Electronic Voice Recording) while Kris, Pam, and Julie were taking photos around the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Deb was in the kitchen with us and Tony was very curious about EVP so he had asked to come into the kitchen with us to go over the evidence. Tony came into the kitchen and listened to a couple of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) that we had captured and was just amazed by them. Tony was being very guarded and not leaving himself out in the open very long. He soon backed up and stood against the basement door and was still being very closely monitored by our team member Pam Preston who was also taking numerous photos of him. We began to talk about a photo that was captured at the foot of the basement stairs of a demon/dog like creature. After about 5 minutes or so I had discover yet another EVP we had captured and was working with it on the laptop. During this time Tony stated that something was pulling at him from behind the door. Tony felt this and decided to come up for a closer look to get away from that area and that is when Juli noticed his right leg was bleeding on the calf area.

Now keep in mind that Pam had her eyes on him the whole time and it would be very hard for him to cause these injuries to himself without being noticed. These scratches on Tony’s leg were not near as bad as the one he received upstairs about 2 hours earlier, but they were bad enough to bleed. We took photos of the scratches and surrounding area and noticed yet another scratch located on Tony’s forehead. This wound was superficial and did not bleed but you could notice it very easily. Tony’s visit was not a pleasurable one but it did give him some closure on the situation. He relayed to us that he would never return to the house again for future investigations.

Deb and Tony left about 20 minutes after that incident and we stayed long enough to finish analyzing our evidence for that night and then we packed up our equipment and went back to the hotel for a much needed rest and debriefing. We awoke the next morning and loaded up our vehicles for the long trip back to Illinois but wanted to check in on Deb and Tony before we left. We arrived at their house and while inside we talked about the situation last night and Deb had showed me a very disturbing piece of evidence she had noticed. Tony came from the kitchen and Deb had asked him to show me his leg where the scratches were made by an unknown source and I could not believe my eyes, there was a very large bruise of a hand covering the scratches. This could not have been done by Tony or Deb because the hand was too big to be Deb’s and due to the angle of the hand print, there is no way Tony could have self inflicted this. We left soon after seeing this and we were all ready to come home to the peace and quiet. The aftermath of visiting this house will change me for the rest of my life and has opened my eyes to even more of the paranormal and just how mysterious it can truly be.

The Ghost of Xunantunich

Belize does not immediately come to mind when thinking of hot bed areas for ghostly activity, but in fact it has one of the more intriguing and long-lasting ghost stories I’ve run across in recent years. The ancient Mayan ruin of Xunantunich lies about 80 miles west of Belize City. The phenomena is so strongly associated with the area that the site itself is now named after the ghost, Xunantunich is mayan for “stone woman”.

Sightings of the stone woman begin in 1892 when several people living on the site saw a woman, dressed in white, ascending the stairs of the temple-pyramid at the site, known as “El Castillo”, and disappearing into a stone wall. The most notable feature is that she has glowing red eyes. In subsequent years, several other locals saw the ghost, and most recently a tour group from Canada seems to have spotted the lady, true to the previous accounts, shortly after sun down.
Beyond that, little is known. There are, however, interesting aspects of the haunting if looked at within the confines of ancient Mayan culture. Firstly, the site is very old. Xunantunich flourished between 200 AD and mostly died away around 900 AD, likely because of a devastating earthquake. The site was generally unknown and grown over until the 1890′s, so it seems likely that the stone woman is perhaps the ghost of an ancient Mayan woman ascending the stairs of El Castillo to be sacrificed, or connected in some way to the ritual, to appease the gods of the Maya.

If she is a Mayan from nearly two thousand years ago, it wouldn’t be surprising that she would ascend the temple stairs. Mayans were known for human sacrifice at the tops of their temples. Incidences of very strong emotion are often linked to the creation of a ghost, and I can think of few things that would be more emotional than a human sacrifice. In the end, we’ll never know, but if the paranormal enthusiast reader ever gets to the jungles of Belize, Xunantunich should be on the top of your list as places to visit.

Seattle Underground

Haunted Location

An image of the "Seattle Underground"—in the mid-1800s, the facade seen here was at street level
The Seattle Underground is a network of underground passageways and basements in downtown Seattle, Washington, United States that was ground level at the city's origin in the mid-19th century. After the streets were elevated these spaces fell into disuse, but have become a tourist attraction in recent decades.

History

Start of the Great Seattle Fire, looking south on 1st Ave. near Madison St.
Seattle's first buildings were wooden. On June 6, 1889 at 2:39 in the afternoon,[1] a cabinetmaker accidentally overturned and ignited a glue pot. An attempt to extinguish it with water spread the burning grease-based glue. The fire chief was out of town, and although the volunteer fire department responded they made the mistake of trying to use too many hoses at once. They never recovered from the subsequent drop in water pressure, and the Great Seattle Fire destroyed 31 blocks.[2]
While a destructive fire was not unusual for the time, the response of the city leaders was. Instead of rebuilding the city as it was before, they made two strategic decisions: that all new buildings must be of stone or brick, insurance against a similar disaster in the future; and to regrade the streets one to two stories higher than the original street grade. Pioneer Square had originally been built mostly on filled-in tidelands and, as a consequence, it often flooded. The new street level also assisted in ensuring that gravity-assisted flush toilets that funnelled into Elliott Bay did not back up at high tide.

Brick arches provide the ceiling for the underground corridors and support the hollow street sidewalks
For the regrade, the streets were lined with concrete walls that formed narrow alleyways between the walls and the buildings on both sides of the street, with a wide "alley" where the street was. The naturally steep hillsides were used, and through a series of sluices material was washed into the wide "alleys", raising the streets to the desired new level, generally 12 feet higher than before, in some places nearly 30 feet.
At first pedestrians climbed ladders to go between street level and the sidewalks in front of the building entrances. Brick archways, as seen in the image to the left, were constructed next to the road surface, above the submerged sidewalks. Skylights with small panes of clear glass (which later became amethyst-colored because of manganese in the glass) were installed, creating the area now called the Seattle Underground.

The concrete floor of the former meat market was originally at the level of the wooden platform on the left, but sank over time because of decomposing sawdust fill.
When they reconstructed their buildings, merchants and landlords knew that the ground floor would eventually be underground and the next floor up would be the new ground floor, so there is very little decoration on the doors and windows of the original ground floor, but extensive decoration on the new ground floor.
Once the new sidewalks were complete, building owners moved their businesses to the new ground floor, although merchants carried on business in the lowest floors of buildings that survived the fire, and pedestrians continued to use the underground sidewalks lit by the glass prisms (still seen on some streets) embedded in the grade-level sidewalk above.
In 1907 the city condemned the Underground for fear of bubonic plague, two years before the 1909 World Fair in Seattle (Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition). The basements were left to deteriorate or were used as storage. Some became illegal flophouses for the homeless, gambling halls, speakeasies, and opium dens.
Only a small portion of the Seattle Underground has been restored and made safe and accessible to the public on guided tours.

 Seattle Underground Tour

In 1965, local citizen Bill Speidel realized there might be interest (and profit) in the subterranean ruins. He established "Bill Speidel's Underground Tour" and took customers on a tour of what was left underneath Pioneer Square, paying rent to the building owners for the privilege of doing so. He peppered his tour patter with tall tales from Seattle's history (some more factual than others), giving the tour an amusing counterculture feel that made it an "underground" tour in every sense of the word.
Over the years the tour has become more popular, and the underground structures have been steadily refurbished to be more visually appealing. The tour remains a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike.

Britannia Manor

Haunted Location

Britannia Manor

Britannia Manor is the residence of game designer Richard Garriott. The name comes from the castle of Lord British, ruler of Britannia, the setting of the Ultima computer role playing game series, which he created. Britannia Manor is situated atop a large hill near Austin, Texas. The home was featured in a 2007 episode of the HGTV television series, Secret Spaces, on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and on MTV Cribs.
Britannia Manor is also the name given to what has been called the world's most famous haunted house, held in this location every two years from 1988 to 1994.

 Haunt History

Before 1995, Britannia Manor was famous for hosting the most elaborate haunted house in the country.[citation needed] Garriott spent a great deal of money biannually around Halloween to pay for makeup, tools, construction materials, special effects, and costumes for his haunted house. The actors and techs were all volunteers, many donating hundreds of hours for the honor of being a part of the show, and a free t-shirt. Only two men were paid to work on Britannia Manor, Greg Dykes and Keith Ewing, from local construction company Custom Creations.[4] They oversaw and organized much of the specialized set construction. Invitations to what Garriott thought of as a giant house party were given away free, with the exception of a few shows where tickets were donated to charity and sold for $100 or more. People waited for as long as two weeks, camped out in front of Garriott's house, to be first in line to receive the free invitations.[3]
Britannia Manor was a full contact Halloween adventure. The events were designed like a role-playing game. Participants would go through Garriott's mountain property in adventuring parties, gathering clues to solve mysteries and quests, while facing different perils and pitfalls. The actors would touch, grab, and physically as well as verbally interact with the guests, who could not simply wander through like in most haunted houses. They would have to swing, crawl, climb, and row their way out.[3] It was not uncommon for parties to lose members in the course of the quest.
The format of an interactive full contact haunted adventure that Richard Garriott created has continued to this day. Many of the volunteers who worked on Britannia Manor, including Keith Ewing, formerly of Custom Creations, transferred Richard's ideas and their talent and enthusiasm to support the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve in Austin for nine years from 1996 to 2005 by creating Wild Basin's Haunted Trails.[5] In 2007, many of those volunteers supported SCARE for a CURE, a charity haunted house in the Austin Elk's Lodge directed by Jarrett Crippen, aka The Defuser. SCARE for a CURE has now incorporated as a non-profit.
In 2009, SCARE for a CURE, now sponsored by Richard Garriott but still under the direction of Jarrett Crippen, was held in Garriott's unfinished manor about half mile from the original manor[6], which he has dubbed Britannia Manor Mark 3 (Mark 1 being his original house in New Hampshire, and Mark 2 being his current residence).[7]

 House information

The manor's medieval design reflects Garriott's interest in the era. The house is adorned with various medieval items such as crossbows, swords, and armour. It features traps and a network of secret passages and rooms. A secret room in the basement contains some of Garriott's most treasured artifacts, including dinosaur fossils, a coffin with a human skeleton inside it, and an authentic 16th century vampire hunting kit. The house also features other collections such as hairs from the Glacier snowman, a brick from the Great Wall of China, a Russian spacesuit, and three stained glass windows retrieved from an abandoned church.[8]
The house also has an observatory in the main complex. Although part of the house, it is structurally independent from the rest of the house in order to damp out vibrations, as they ruin long-exposure space photos.
Britannia Manor was designed by designer/architect, Alan Barley, of Barley & Pfeiffer Architects in Austin, Texas. In 1996, Garriott hired Moore-Andersson Architects, Austin, to design another house on a nearby riverfront property. The property is situated atop a bluff overlooking the Austin, Texas skyline, the 360 Bridge, and Lake Austin. Britannia Manor Mark 3 will also have a rotating observatory and will be more castle than house. Construction on this house was delayed for some time after the dot com crash. It resumed for a while a few years later, but was put on indefinite hold when Garriott decided in 2008 to spend the majority of his fortune to go into space.
There is a working cannon at the front door and an indoor grotto with hot-and-cold-running rain showers. [9
As of late October 2011, Britannia Manor II is up for sale for US $4,100,000

 Curtain Theater

On the waterfront portion of the property, Garriott has built a scaled replica of an Elizabethan outdoor theater called the Curtain, after the original Curtain Theatre. Capable of seating well over a hundred, Garriott's Curtain theater is modeled after the style also replicated in full-scale by Sam Wanamaker's Globe Theatre replica in Southwark, on the south bank of the Thames, in an area known as Bankside.

 Media coverage

It was featured on an episode of MTV Cribs.
A free documentary was also made called The World's Most Famous Haunted House: A Tribute to Britannia Manor.

 Burglar attack

In 1997 the house was broken into by a deranged fan. Garriott held him off with an Uzi, firing a warning shot while waiting for police to arrive.
