"Sequel Science" episode 25! Now it's time to talk about something that is affecting all of the kids of America. Something of grave importance to the people of this country. That would be the movie "Freddy Vs. Jason"! Finally I decided to review it. Some critics will say they didn't like it but I thought it was fan-friggin'-tastic! It was the best modern redo of all the Freddy and Jason movies combined into one. It was definitely inventive and imaginative as far as either of those two series go. The idea is Freddy enlists Jason to harvest some souls and bring him back from hell into reality. So the more Jason kills the more Freddy becomes real. And what made Jason real? Well that would be his density; if a soul doesn't know he's dead then maybe he can come back. Jason is sort of a thick headed figure in horror after all. A big lug only his mother could love. What is it with killers and their mothers? Who knows. Jason's seasoned bloodlust compels him to start hacking away at teens in the local neighborhood in graphic fashion. He makes mince meat out of these disposable teens in gruesome ways much better than in the "Friday The 13th" series. Freddy gets frustrated that he's not totally real yet and shows off some excellent EFX in the process. The cast with Monica Keena was perfect. The stoners were a nice touch too. I honestly thought this movie was so well done that it astounded me. And to have the original Freddy, Robert Englund, in the cast was what we were all waiting for after the wickedly ingenious "New Nightmare". The death scenes took the wind out of you, like when Jason cuts a guy in half with his machete with one powerful swing. Freddy's kills were more from your dark imagination, just what you'd expect from Freddy's older movies. And that's why we adore him. He's twisted that way. The best example of this would be when he turned into an evil caterpillar. I think they improved on the older movies quite a bit with this one and that's what many may fail to think about. Instead of criticizing it I would compare it to the others of each series to see why it was so highly anticipated. My personal favorite part was when they found the children of Elm Street holed up in a room at the asylum with tubes in their mouths and their eyes covered, the victims of the experimental sleeping drug that would never wake up. The dream interludes where Freddy did things like make love to a corpse were over the top and added some needed flavor. If that wasn't enough we all wanted to see these two fight each other. If this is what all the Freddy and Jason movies led up to then it was well worth it. I only hope they still consider making a sequel. And if not, then at least get Rob Zombie to make a remake where they're both real life psychos trying to kill each other. Or both! The sequel and the remake! That would be so insanely awesome! You could even put them in the new, rumored "Hellraiser" remake! Wishful thinking but it could be done with great praise. And this movie had the most essential part to a good horror movie, titties! The nudity was prevalent and welcome. Freddy and Jason's souls are now so inextricably linked that they would probably become some mutant horror that doesn't even resemble either one of them. There is fertile, verdant soul to be explored here. I can only hope. If you like horror then this should be one of your faves. I want to see the two of them combined. Gotta love the end with Freddy's head winking right at you creepily. And if you loved the one liners in Freddy movies then this one is sure to please. That was part of the reason we loved Freddy. Jason loves mama, ha.
