Versus Movie #116. Well, the verdict is in on "The Cabin In The Woods". I'd say it was right up my alley. Easily the best horror movie this year. The plot sort of throws you for a loop but we get hints early on. Even in the beginning we see two scientists talking right off the bat. I think it does make you wonder what's going to happen but gives a certain amount away soon...
Versus Movie #116. Well, the verdict is in on "The Cabin In The Woods". I'd say it was right up my alley. Easily the best horror movie this year. The plot sort of throws you for a loop but we get hints early on. Even in the beginning we see two scientists talking right off the bat. I think it does make you wonder what's going to happen but gives a certain amount away soon. Some have likened it to "Cube", and the movie poster does go in that direction but it wasn't exactly like that. That would have been pretty cool though. 5 friends go to a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Some backwoods area that doesn't seem like a vacation spot. Apparently they were chosen for their different traits. Chosen by some scientists to play a cat and mouse game. At first I thought they were just playing some sort of game entirely. Then I thought maybe they were gonna have zombies show up that can't hurt them or be seen, and then a glitch happens and they die. But it didn't happen like that. There was a glitch but not the one I anticipated. The glitch allowed them to combat the threat at hand instead of dying right away. With movies like this they can go different ways so my imagination as a cyberpunk horror writer started turning the gears with ideas. Granted, I would have done a few things differently myself, but it was very cool. And as cool as it is you know what happens after this movie? Any movie with similar ideas will be hailed as ripping 'Cabin' just like any movie with VR will supposedly be ripping "The Matrix". I liked the twist in this movie a lot. It did throw a wrench in my gears at one point to my satisfaction. It even seems like it was influenced a lot by none other than one of this site's fave authors, H.P. Lovecraft. You'll understand what I mean if you see it. After seeing this I'm glad to say it delivered and it had the massive amounts of gore I was hoping for, and the titties! Can't forget those. Could have used more nudity and sex though. And never enough gore. So many horror movies these days are catering to the teen crowd so they're PG-13 but not this movie. The comparisons to "Resident Evil" are evident, as well as "Thir13en Ghosts". The part that scared me was the technology. It was basically VR overlapping reality. This is a new idea that hasn't been done before and it should be feared because military types would love that. Why? Who knows, but people like to create things like that and keep it a secret. Albert Einstein theorized that physical matter is simply contained force, like the sun. If we were able to contain force in electromagnetic radiation then we could create a living thing that doesn't exist, except when we want it to. This could lead to a nightmare straight out of an episode of "The Outer Limits". So with that said, this movie really takes things to new levels and resurrects old ones. The one main beef I had was whether the ending should have gone the way it did. I liked it but again this sort of movie can go more than one way. I would have slept with the virgin if I were that dude at the end. So this movie gets a big thumbs up from me! Very inspirational for new ideas as well. This is a real horror movie for lovers of horror that want a tad of humor too. It's not a comedy though at all. The ending satisfies. Time for a cabin retreat!

The Strange Sea – A Few of Our Favorite Ghost Ships
In 1880, the future King George V of England and his brother Prince Albert Victor (incidently a suspect in the Jack the Ripper case) saw a ghost ship while serving in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Bacchante. It appeared around 4 AM off the coast of Australia, glowing with red light with all sails set. The Princes, along with eleven others, momentarily saw the ship off their port bow at a distance of about 200 yards before it vanished as quickly as it appeared. The next day, the seaman who first sighted it fell to his death in an accident. King George V is the most noteworthy person out of hundreds said to have seen the Flying Dutchman.
The story behind the Flying Dutchman is unfortunately convoluted and colored by the exaggeration of centuries of sailors. The earliest written accounts describe a ship lost with all hands off the Cape of Good Hope. Another story describes a Captain Fokke, who made a deal with the devil to increase the speed of his ship. Then there’s the famous Captain van der Decken, who pushed his ship too hard, cursing at the wind to change direction, promising to push his ship forward until judgement day. It is unknown if all of these accounts describe the same ship, or different ghost ships, but the sightings are always said to herald disaster.
The convoluted story of the Flying Dutchman is just one of many stories about ghost ships. Off the coast of England, near a treacherous area called the Goodwin Sands, a ship wrecked in 1748 appears once every fifty years. Coming from the fog, the ship, called the Lady Luvibund, will appear with full sails set until ultimately making a suicidal turn toward toward land. The story goes that the first mate of the ship, a man named Rivers, snapped during the Captain’s wedding party, killed the helmsman and turned the ship toward land where it was smashed with all hands lost. It was seen in 1798, when it almost ran down another ship, the sounds of the party below decks could still be heard. It was seen again in 1848 when it was mistaken for a ship in distress, and again in 1898. Sadly, the ship has not been seen in recent times.
Another story involves the vessel Palatine, that appears off the coast of New England as a burning ship with a screaming lady standing on the deck. There are several versions of the story, most involving an unrescued crazy woman accidently left on board when the ship was burned. One version states that people on shore had loured the ship into the rocks with lanterns, where they robbed and murdered the crew and passengers before setting the ship alight to cover the evidence, leaving the raving woman onboard to burn.
The Caleuche is a ghost ship sighted off the coast of Chile, and has an even more wildly varying set of attributes than theFlying Dutchman. Some state that the ship is helpful, appearing to ships in distress. Another legend tells of its crew, who drowned when the ship sank, still trying to provide for their families from the grave. Yet another tale weaves a picture of a ship full of shapeshifting ghosts who can appear as men, or fish, or birds. And finally, another states that anyone who unwittingly harms the ship will sail for eternity as a slave working in the galley.
Some ghost ships aren’t ghosts at all. They are abandoned vessels that ply the waters without a crew, sometimes for decades. The Baychimo was a cargo steamer that became trapped in the arctic pack ice in 1931 carrying a load of furs. The crew was forced to abandon the ship, but it broke free several days later and the crew returned, only to get it stuck again in the ice. Left with a skeleton crew that took shelter on land until the ship could melt free, they awoke one morning to see that the ship was gone. Assuming that it had sunk, the crew prepared to go home until the ship was sighted adrift in open water some miles away. They retrieved the valuable cargo and assumed the Baychimo was too damaged to save. Apparently it wasn’t, since the ship would be sighted floating around the area for the next 38 years. The last sighting was in 1969, but some speculate that the ship may be locked in the ice again, waiting to break free and be seen again.
The oddest story of a ship without a crew, at least a live one, is the tale of the Ourang Medan. A very difficult to substantiate account, if true it could overtake all other cases as the strangest story to have come from the seas. In 1948, distress calls were recieved by several ships identified as coming from the Ourang Medan, a Dutch freighter. The transmissions told of most of the crew being dead, then a series of garbled messages, followed simply by the words “I die”. The ship was located drifting off the coast of Indonesia, and a boarding party found the crew laying on the deck facing the sky with horrified looks frozen on their faces, some with their arms in a position of pointing at some unknown horror. Even the ship’s dog was seen to be bearing its teeth in death, as if ready to attack. Shortly after, the ship caught fire, the boarding party escaped and the vessel exploded and sank.
The sea is full of mystery, so the next time you opt for a vacation cruise, if you’re lucky – or unlucky as the case may be – you might just see a ghost ship.

| More than 1,000 people claim to have seen the Loch Ness monster since a mysterious shape was first photographed 75 years ago.
THE FIRST
 It was this picture, snapped by Hugh Grey on 12 November 1933, that is credited as being the first photographic evidence of the Loch Ness monster. It appeared on the front cover of the Scottish Daily Record on 8 December that year, under the headline "Monster photograph of the mysterious Loch Ness object".  It is the first picture and bears that distinction, but it is also the least easy to interpret.It has been suggested that it is a double negative, perhaps of a Labrador dog with a stick in its mouth, but it could be anything. 
THE NECK
 The "surgeon's photographs," of the Loch Ness monster have come to define the image of Nessie, and for many years no conclusive proof could be found that they were fakes. The photographs were supposed to have been taken by gynaecologist Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson and were published in the Daily Mail on 21 April 1934. This is the image in most people's minds, but it is a fake. Firstly, if you look at the water texture you can tell the waves are very small, not to scale with the size of the monster.Secondly, it was owned up to by Christian Spurling, one of the hoaxers, in 1994. He was asked to make a model to go on top of a toy submarine by Marmaduke Wetherell, who with a small group of collaborators planned the hoax to get back at the Daily Mail, who had fired and publicly humiliated him for a previous hoax.It is such a beautiful picture and may well have found its inspiration in the Brontosaurus in King Kong. It led to the expectation that the Loch Ness monster would have a long neck.
THE HUMPS
 Lachlan Stuart's photograph taken on 14 July 1951 was of a different kind of Loch Ness monster, with a long thin body arching out of the water. The remnants of this hoax were witnessed by local author Richard Faire. He spoke to Lachlan Stuart the next day, who confessed that he had constructed the image from hay bails and tarpaulin. Researchers later recreated the image and found the water where the monster was seen was in reality very shallow.This didn't stop people from speculating as to how the creature could contort its back in such a way.
THE CASTLE
 Respectable bank manager Peter MacNab took this Nessie photograph on 29 July 1955. This is a huge object. If it were an animal it would be more than 60ft (18m) long, which is colossal. If you think of the amount that would be under the water, it would be a creature of the most improbable proportions.It could possibly be a portion of a boat wake and if you look behind it you may see a faint line in the water. There may have been some retouching, but the photographer never admitted to a hoax.Given the improbability of an object of that size, you have to seek alternative hypotheses, but there is no definitive proof that the image is a fake.

INI cerita seorang teman pemancing lasak yang sering ke perairan Mersing bersama sekumpulan lapan pemancing dari Kota Tinggi dan Kluang, Johor. Mat Salleh bercerita kepada penulis mengenai Pulau Aur yang lesap ketika satu ekspedisi tiga hari dua malam beberapa tahun lalu. Kisah itu masih menjadi satu misteri yang tidak berjawab hingga hari ini.
Menggunakan khidmat tekong lama yang penuh dengan pengalaman, rombongan lapan orang yang diketuai oleh Mat Salleh sendiri bergegas meninggalkan jeti Mersing seawal subuh hari berkenaan.
Destinasi utama kali ini ialah sekitar perairan Pulau Aur yang ketika itu musim spesies ikan bergigi tajam (tenggiri). Jarak perjalanan agak jauh. Justeru, Mat Salleh dan rakan menyambung tidur yang terusik beberapa jam ketika berada di jeti Mersing.
Beliau bersama tekong berbual panjang, cerita Mat Salleh lagi sambil menghirup teh tarik di warung.
Wajah Pulau Aur di sebelah timur sudah berbalam dalam samar-samar cahaya matahari pagi yang bakal berbakti sepanjang siang. Tiba-tiba pulau itu hilang daripada pandangan tetapi pada sonar dan GPS masih jelas lokasinya.
Menggunakan pengalaman tekong yang mahu dikenali sebagai Adi Komando, mereka masih juga gagal mencari pulau berkenaan walaupun waktu sudah jam 11 pagi. Pulau Dayang turut hilang. Namun Adi Komando tidak mahu mendedahkan kehilangan berkenaan demi mengawal keadaan supaya tidak panik. Cuma Mat Salleh dapat merasakan sesuatu yang tidak kena pada ekspedisi kali itu.
Rakan pancing lain yang sudah mula sedar daripada tidur yang panjang. Masing-masing mula membuat persediaan untuk melakukan aktiviti memancing dengan cara masing-masing. Sementara itu, tekong Adi Komando terus mencari jejak pulau yang masih belum kelihatan.
Alat pengesan GPS dan sonar sudah tepat menunjuk arah tetapi wajah Pulau Aur tidak kelihatan, cerita Mat Salleh lagi. Lantas tekong memutuskan pendirian untuk berpindah ke Pulau Pemanggil saja kerana daripada firasatnya sendiri ada yang melarangnya memancing di kawasan berkenaan.
Lima jam berada di sekitar Pulau Pemanggil, sebuah bot nelayan bergegas mendapatkan bot tekong Adi Komando sambil berteriak kuat.
“Pulau Aur dilanda ribut besar dengan tiba-tiba!”
Semua berpandangan satu sama lain. Sambil itu, tekong menarik nafas panjang lalu beredar menjerang air untuk membasahkan tekak dengan kopi panas. Mat Salleh menganggap kegagalannya untuk mengesan pulau adalah satu hikmah di sebalik satu misteri yang tidak berjawab hingga hari ini.
Misteri Pulau Aur yang hilang tidak habis begitu saja. Malam itu ketika melakukan aktiviti memancing di perairan Pulau Pemanggil, mereka dikejutkan dengan kehadiran beberapa ekor ikan besar yang timbul tidak jauh dari bot. Ini berlaku beberapa kali. Tekong Adi Komando digamit rasa kurang selesa sekali lagi. Ikan tambah rancak memburu umpan jenis spesies ikan terbaik yang menghuni lubuk berkenaan iaitu ikan kerapu dan ebek
Mat Salleh turut merasakan kelainan apabila beberapa kali ikan besar muncul. Lalu dia memutuskan pendirian untuk berpindah ke Pulau Tioman. Tekong Adi Komando bersetuju lalu bot bergerak laju ke arah Pulau Tioman. Namun anehnya, peristiwa seperti mencari pulau Aur yang hilang daripada pandangan berlaku lagi ketika mereka mencari Pulau Tioman yang sudah sinonim dengan dirinya.
“Petanda kurang baik lagi. Kita balik saja,” kata Mat Salleh memutuskan tekad dengan tegas dan tidak dibantah oleh rakan pancing yang lain.
Ketika mereka tiba di jeti Mersing, gelombang besar dan ribut serta angin kencang datang bertunda rapat.
Mereka sekali lagi berpandangan menarik nafas panjang.

In the heartland of America there is a quiet little town called Atchison, Kansas. This small town is tucked away into a small valley off the banks of the Missouri river. By looking at this small town, you would never think twice about it being extremely haunted by a mysterious past. One area that stands out from all the rest is nicknamed the "Sallie House". This small 2 story colonial style home looks to be a perfect starter home for a small family, but in reality, this house is not as empty as it appears to be.
In August of 2004, I had the honor of investigating this known haunt in Atchison with Haunted Times Magazine owner Chris Moon. Upon our arrival to the house I stepped out of the vehicle and immediately sensed an overwhelming feeling emitting from the small house. I knew right then that it was not going to be a normal investigation, and I was correct. Haunted Voices returned to the house in February of 2005. I felt compelled to return to the house, although I still could not tell you why, it was a feeling that couldn’t just be ignored. The Haunted Voices Investigation team was accompanied by Debra and Tony Pickman who had lived in the house in the early 90’s and experienced some strange and horrific phenomena while living there. Tony was repeatedly scratched by an unknown entity. Both Debra and Tony experienced objects moving as well as items catching on fire before their eyes. It was an honor to have them with us for the investigation and I was quite shocked when Debra asked me if Tony could join us.
Tony has not been inside of this home for over 10 years, in fear that he might be attacked once again. I hesitated for a few minutes and thought to myself, "Would this be safe for him?", "What if something goes terribly wrong?" After talking to Deb and advising her that it would not be a good idea, we decided to let him try to re-enter the home that had haunted him for several years. He chose to enter the house against our recommendations and took full responsibility for his actions.
Tony arrived at the house in the early evening hours and was eager to get started. You really have to get to know Tony before you can judge him at all. Tony is one of the most interesting and talented individuals I have ever known. He is a very private person and is somewhat shy when it comes to meeting new people, but this didn’t stop him from confronting his violent past. Before entering the house with him we all stood on the front porch and joined hands in prayer asking for guidance and protection for us all. It wasn’t until later that Michael Chappell (our video operator) captured one of the most disturbing pieces of evidence that I have ever seen.
Tony entered the home with Deb and I very close by him and began his visit. He made his way to the kitchen and stopped for a few seconds to take in his surroundings, noting all of the changes that had been made while reminiscing out loud with us. We then made our way through the dining and living rooms where he stopped once again and told us how their furniture and things were placed in the house when they lived there. Deb told us the story of the stuffed animal catching fire as well as some other paranormal instances that took place in the house. It was time to make our way upstairs, which happens to be what Tony had feared the most. He led the way upstairs, stopping every once awhile to take in the surroundings and our first stop was the nursery. While in the nursery, Tony seemed very calm and was recalling past events that took place there when their youngest son was an infant.
He saw for the first time, all of the stuffed animals and dolls that were collected over the years and placed on the window sills as a tribute or perhaps just a toy for little "Sallie" to play with. There was quite a collection of them ranging from stuffed teddy bears to very nice collection of small dolls. We soon left the nursery and preceded to the master bedroom which is located at the front of the home.
While in the master bedroom, stories and experiences were shared and Michael kept the camera going to capture as much of the event as possible. Tony began looking around the area and made his way to a small closet; Tony still had a very uneasy feeling of that area and refused to enter it. We all kept a very close eye on him while he toured the home and we could all tell that his moods seemed to change from room to room. When we started in the kitchen he seemed very happy and eager to see the rest of the home, but as we all made our way upstairs his moods had changed to sadness and confusion.
We stayed in the master bedroom and talked for a couple of minutes and while we were talking, Tony stood against the door frame and was very guarded of himself, looking out into the hallway every once in awhile, like he heard or saw something out there. We finished our conversation in the master bedroom and decided to go into the last bedroom. With Deb and Tony leading the way we made our way there. While walking, Michael had stated to me that the camcorder was acting very strange and I advised him that they have done that in the past with our cameras. We stepped out into the hallway and noticed Deb and Tony standing in front of the restroom talking and pointing out some of the changes that had been made since they had been there last. At that time Deb had noticed something on Tony’s arm; it was a cut on his right forearm, and a very deep one at that. I then stated, "That’s it" and took Tony out side and away from the situation.
Michael had captured this whole incident on film and we cannot thank him enough for his excellent work in a very stressful situation such as that. While outside we addressed his wound and found I to be about 2 ½ inches long and deep enough to require stitches. Tony said that he didn’t even feel it and was just as surprised as we were. This was one of the worst injuries that he has received while being inside the home and it was very emotional for all of us to witness. My wife Kris and I had become very close with Deb and Tony and to see him in a situation like that was very upsetting. My wife burst into tears of both anger and sadness and just couldn’t understand why they were doing this to him. We were able to stop the bleeding on Tony’s wound and put a few bandages on it from our first aid kit. I had checked Tony for other marks or scratches and he was untouched other then his right forearm. Tony insisted that we go back into the house and at this time I was in total disagreement but granted him his wishes on one condition; that he would sit in the dinning room and be closely monitored by us. He agreed and we proceeded to the dining room, where he stayed for most of the investigation.
We kept two cameras on Tony and while they were recording Deb had notice several cold spots or sensations by his legs and feet. My wife Kris and our researcher/investigator Pam (who is also my mother in law) went upstairs to place motion detectors as well as video cameras in the area. We had placed a video camera in the nursery to hopefully capture an anomaly or EVP from the nursery area and across the hall to the 3rd bedroom. We had also placed two motion detectors in the area. One was covering the nursery and adjoining hallway and the other monitored the stairs.
After arming the units, we went back downstairs to find Tony sitting comfortably in the chair with Deb right beside him. My wife and a few others from the group had gone outside for a break. We had a total of 3 video cameras monitoring the house, one was upstairs and two were downstairs covering Tony from different angles as well as the kitchen and living room areas. While they were on break Michael and I went to the kitchen area and began to go over some of our evidence, I know the following may sound like a hoax or staged event but I assure you that it is not.
While Tony was sitting still he said he felt something under him in the chair, he leaned up a bit and grabbed the object and it was a remote control, their remote control. The object had been missing in their current house for several weeks and suddenly it appeared in the house they no longer lived in. The remote looked as if someone had taken it in both their right and left hand and twisted it in opposite ways. It was hot and you could smell the plastic burning, I then held the remote up to my ear and could hear a crackling sound as the plastic cooled. This was just amazing and you could see the remote just melting from the inside out. Photos were taken of the evidence and we placed it in an area where it would not be touched and our team members closely monitored it. A similar situation happed to Deb on our last investigation, where her camera that was inside of her purse had melted. This was not a battery problem because the unit was turned off and the burn took place on the opposite side of the battery storage area.
Michael and I were in the kitchen going over our EVR (Electronic Voice Recording) while Kris, Pam, and Julie were taking photos around the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Deb was in the kitchen with us and Tony was very curious about EVP so he had asked to come into the kitchen with us to go over the evidence. Tony came into the kitchen and listened to a couple of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) that we had captured and was just amazed by them. Tony was being very guarded and not leaving himself out in the open very long. He soon backed up and stood against the basement door and was still being very closely monitored by our team member Pam Preston who was also taking numerous photos of him. We began to talk about a photo that was captured at the foot of the basement stairs of a demon/dog like creature. After about 5 minutes or so I had discover yet another EVP we had captured and was working with it on the laptop. During this time Tony stated that something was pulling at him from behind the door. Tony felt this and decided to come up for a closer look to get away from that area and that is when Juli noticed his right leg was bleeding on the calf area.
Now keep in mind that Pam had her eyes on him the whole time and it would be very hard for him to cause these injuries to himself without being noticed. These scratches on Tony’s leg were not near as bad as the one he received upstairs about 2 hours earlier, but they were bad enough to bleed. We took photos of the scratches and surrounding area and noticed yet another scratch located on Tony’s forehead. This wound was superficial and did not bleed but you could notice it very easily. Tony’s visit was not a pleasurable one but it did give him some closure on the situation. He relayed to us that he would never return to the house again for future investigations.
Deb and Tony left about 20 minutes after that incident and we stayed long enough to finish analyzing our evidence for that night and then we packed up our equipment and went back to the hotel for a much needed rest and debriefing. We awoke the next morning and loaded up our vehicles for the long trip back to Illinois but wanted to check in on Deb and Tony before we left. We arrived at their house and while inside we talked about the situation last night and Deb had showed me a very disturbing piece of evidence she had noticed. Tony came from the kitchen and Deb had asked him to show me his leg where the scratches were made by an unknown source and I could not believe my eyes, there was a very large bruise of a hand covering the scratches. This could not have been done by Tony or Deb because the hand was too big to be Deb’s and due to the angle of the hand print, there is no way Tony could have self inflicted this. We left soon after seeing this and we were all ready to come home to the peace and quiet. The aftermath of visiting this house will change me for the rest of my life and has opened my eyes to even more of the paranormal and just how mysterious it can truly be.

Terima kasih kepada Kedah2U, akhirnya penulis menemukan sebab kenapa TESCO Mergong di Kedah itu dikatakan berhantu.
Mungkin ramai pengunjung yang tidak maklum dengan kewujudan dua buah kubur di tepi Pasaraya TESCO Mergong, Alor Setar. Mungkin juga disebabkan kawasan kubur ini telah ditabir dengan pagar zink yang agak tinggi.
Pihak Kedah2U mendapat makluman tentang kubur ini daripada beberapa pekerja Pasaraya TESCO dan seorang pembantu kedai di Restoran Makanan Segera Pizza Hut yang juga beroperasi dalam bangunan TESCO Mergong. Menurut keterangan beberapa pekerja TESCO Mergong, mereka pernah terlihat seakan lembaga hitam sedang bertenggek di atas dahan pokok yang berada ditepi kedua-dua kubur tersebut apabila pulang lewat pada waktu malam.
Seorang pengawal yang bertugas di sini juga menegaskan yang dia sering tercium bau yang wangi disertai perasaan seram sejuk apabila melalui berdekatan kawasan tersebut. Namun perkara sebenar disebalik misteri ini masih belum diurai dan tiada sebarang kes yang dibangkitkan berkaitan kedua-dua kubur tersebut. The twin fields of cryptozoology and crypto-botany are bursting with tales of strange and unusual plants and animals. While the public at large is generally aware of such cryptid superstars as the Loch Ness Monster and the Sasquatch, few have ever heard of the Man-Eating Trees of Madagascar, or the Mongolian Death worms.
In 1881 a magazine called the South Australian Register ran a story by a traveler called Carle Liche. He tells us that while travelling through Madagascar, he was horrified to watch the native Mdoko tribe sacrifice a woman to a man-eating tree. He stated that the places the woman near the tree, and after laying there for a few seconds, the tree’s tendrils took the woman by the neck and strangled her, before apparently engulfing the body. In his 1924 book “Madagascar, land of the man-eating tree” former Michigan Governor Chase Osborn recounted Liche’s tale, and mentioned that missionaries and locals in Madagascar all knew of the deadly tree. Unfortunately, Liche’s accounts may have been an exaggeration, as both the Mdoko tribe nor the man-eating tree have ever been found, and the governor may simply have been embellishing a little bit more to make for good reading.
From the steppes of Mongolia comes another type of creature that is particularly memorable by its rather disgusting appearance. The Mongolian Death Worm is a supposedly poisonous worm that has the appearance of a bright red bloody cow intestine. That’s right, a deadly cow intestine. Said to be about four feet long, the animal is said to spit a yellow substance when threatened that is deadly on contact with human skin, and is even claimed to be able to kill with electricity in a manner similar to the electric eel. Shocking, but does it really exist? Expeditions to Mongolia to find the creature haven’t been particularly fruitful, however the story is so wide-spread that there may well be truth to it. With new species of animal, even large ones, seemingly being found all the time in such places as the jungles of Vietnam, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to suspect that the same may be found under the earth in the extremely desolate Gobi desert.
Madagascar and Mongolia aren’t the only places where one finds man-eating trees and deadly worms. South America is also a fruitful land for stories of deadly trees, and even more amazing are the stories of the enormous Minhocao. This giant cryptic has been reported to live in the forests of South America and has been claimed to reach astonishing lengths of up to 75 feet. Old accounts tell of a huge tunnel digging worm with two appendages on its head, perhaps similar to those of a snail or slug. Unfortunately, no one has seen the Minhocao in over a century, suggesting that it has either gone extinct or may never have existed at all.
Often cryptids are misidentified known animals, sometimes they defy explanation. In any of the cases detailed in this article, there would be few animals with appearances close enough to be mistaken. It might be that the man-eating trees simply stem from exaggerated accounts of venus fly traps, but the worms are more difficult to dismiss. Slimy worms aren’t particularly scary, nor do they make good fodder to make up legends about. They are simply worms, and stories of 75 foot long docile giants and blood red disgusting-but-deadly creatures are not something that cultures would normally invent out of thin air. They probably have a grain of truth somewhere, hidden along with the animals themselves in the least explored places on planet earth.

Cabaran yang akhirnya makan diri

Sekarang ni dah zaman moden, kita jangan takut, tasik tu memang banyak ikan, kita mesti pergi minggu depan ni," tegas Kamarul anak muda yang menetap di Kuala Lumpur, cerita Pak Daud kepada penulis misteri untuk berkongsi pengalaman dengan kaki pancing seluruh negara dalam halaman Misteri Joran.
“PEDULIKAN dengan hantu, syaitan, pontianak. Sekarang ni dah zaman moden, kita jangan takut, tasik tu memang banyak ikan, kita mesti pergi minggu depan ni,” tegas Kamarul anak muda yang menetap di Kuala Lumpur, cerita Pak Daud kepada penulis misteri untuk berkongsi pengalaman dengan kaki pancing seluruh negara dalam halaman Misteri Joran.
Sama ada kita mahu percaya atau tidak tentang misteri, ianya tetap ada malah berlaku dengan jelas, Pak Daud meneruskan cerita tentang Kamarul bersama lima rakan pancing yang bertekad untuk meneruskan rancangan memancing di Tasik Merbau Jati, yang dikatakan berpuaka, tapi banyak ikan kerana jarang di kunjungi pemancing.
Kamarul mulutnya memang celupar, dia bercakap tidak mengira tempat, walau pun dia sudah dua kali disergah lembaga hitam semasa memancing di kolam berbayar yang jauh dari bandar, tapi dia masih belum serik.
Hari itu hujung minggu, dia dengan rakan pancing dari kampung asalnya Lembah Beringin (bukan nama asal) bergerak ke lokasi dengan menaiki tiga motosikal. Perjalanan mengambil masa hampir empat jam itu membuatkan mereka tidak sabar untuk beraksi dengan ikan toman, patin dan baung bersaiz besar hingga mencecah puluhan kilogram setiap ekor ingin didaratkan. Cerita beberapa beberapa orang pemancing yang sudah pergi ke tasik tersebut menyebabkan Kamarul tambah teruja, dan mengulangi ke lokasi itu lagi atas sebab-sebab yang penuh dengan rahsia.
Kumpulan Kamarul tiba di Tasik tepat jam tiga petang. Suasana sangat tenang sekitarnya dan tasik terbentang luas dengan lompatan ikan sambil bermain hingga ke bahagian tebing tasik dengan bebas.
Kamarul dengan rakan pancingnya terus mencari tempat yang sesuai dan dengan pantas melabuhkan umpan anak ikan seluang hidup yang disimpan dalam bekas bantuan oksigen. Mereka tidak kering tangan mendaratkan ikan baung dan patin bersaiz sederhana dan besar hingga mencecah 12 kilogram. Paling banyak mendaratkan ikan patin ialah Luqman (anak tempatan kampung Mukut Pulau Tioman) yang bekerja satu pejabat dengan Kamarul di Kuala Lumpur.
Bagaimanapun program mereka untuk bermalam di lokasi tasik dibatalkan kerana ikan sudah banyak diperolehi. Sepanjang mereka berada di lokasi Tasik Merbau Jati tiada sebarang gangguan atau bunyi yang menakutkan. Mereka hanya mengambil masa tiga jam saja melakukan aktiviti memancing tanpa berhenti berpuluh ekor spesies ikan dari patin, lampam, baung dan toman berjaya didaratkan. Mereka pulang sebelum senja.
“Mana ada penunggu tasik, lokasi cantik, tenteram, kan aku dah cakap zaman moden ni mana ada pontianak,” Ngomil Kamarul lagi sambil memecut laju motosikalnya. Dia kelihatan begitu ceria dan bangga dengan tindakan berani yang tidak pernah memikirkan risikonya kelak.
Trip kedua diatur dalam masa terdekat bagi mengulangi kejayaan pertamanya. Kali ini Kamarul lebih berani sambil mencabar untuk melihat kalau ada penunggu tasik berkenaan seperti yang di war-warkan sebelum ini. Cabaran berani dari Kamarul kali ini kurang disenangi oleh semua rakan pancingnya yang terdiri dari rakan lama yang menyertai trip pertama minggu lepas. Mereka merancang untuk meninggalkan lokasi tapi Kamarul tiba-tiba hilang sebaik saja mereka berkemas peralatan pancing untuk pulang, keadaan menjadi kelam kabut yang akhirnya membuat laporan polis dan akhirnya seluruh kawasan tasik itu menjadi tumpuan masyarakat kampung, polis dan tentera.
Pencarian gagal hingga menelan masa satu minggu. Khidmat bomoh dan pawang dilakukan yang akhirnya Kamarul ditemui di bawah pokok rimbun dalam keadaan tidak bermaya dan tidak bercakap hingga meninggal dunia dua tahun lalu, cerita Pak Daud menamatkan misteri Tasik Merbau Jati yang kini sudah dibangunkan perkampungan orang asli.
Jangan mudah mencabar sesuatu yang kita tidak arif dengannya, kelak memakan diri sendiri.

This 1800s-era cemetery has been largely abandoned since 1965, and since then has fallen victim to vandals. Among the toppled tombstones it is said that satanic and occultist groups perform ceremonies, and over 100 reports of strange phenomena have been collected.
Among them, ghost lights, inexplicable lights and voices, apparitions, strange photos, anomalous recordings and sightings of unbelievable creatures. There is also a nearby haunted lagoon, a phantom farmhouse and a stretch of haunted turnpike near Bachelor's Grove.
