Ghost Stations

Ghost Stations

GHOST STATIONS 1 book cover
Ghost Stations is a series of books by the British military historian Bruce Barrymore Halpenny, containing ostensibly true ghost and mystery stories generally connected to the RAF, airfields and other military or war connected stories.

History

Bruce Halpenny had been writing ghost stories in the 1960s and encountering ghost stories in his exhaustive research into airfield histories, when he decided they should form the subject of a special book, and so started to add to and research his “ghost-mystery” files about abandoned airfields that "murmur and whisper with ghosts".[1][2] Halpenny had by 1984 become acknowledged as a respected British military historian, expert in airfield histories, and expert in "RAF ghosts", especially surrounding airfields.[3]
The author has since the 1960s been presenting evidence of paranormal activity on airfields, as well as campaigning for not just the Government to do their part and preserve a 1939-45 War airfield, in its original condition to let future generations see, but also for the history of each to be recorded fully and the men and sacrifice never forgotten.[4]
Ghost Stations was officially launched at RAF Wittering on Thursday 16 October 1986.[5] The book took 18 months to compile[5] and drew upon the author's knowledge and experience working in airfields and documenting their history.[5] Ghost Stations proved a best seller[6] and was followed by a second book, entitled, Aaargh! that was published with over 30 "ghostly and mysterious" tales, one of which was "The eerie mystery of Lightning 894". Aaargh!, was later to become Ghost Stations 2 as six more books followed over the years.[7]
GHOST STATIONS became a trademark in the late 1980s and in 2008 the new Ghost Stations series, based on the original series, was brought out. In the new series the stories had been shuffled around and merged, thus a story that was being investigated by Bruce Halpenny that was in several books in the old series, were merged into one story in one book in the new series. Also regional books were created in the new series, with Ghost Stations Lincolnshire, already for some Lincolnshire bookshops, one of their best sellers.[8] The author's son, commercial artist, book editor and writer, Baron Barrymore Halpenny had a hand in the book cover design from the original series to the new series.
The author expresses his beliefs in the supernatural:
It is difficult for people to believe in ghosts and this is understandable for people tend to accept only what they can see and hear with their normal senses. Strange paranormal events take place, which seem to verge on fantasy, these events happen when we least expect them. It is not necessarily the bewitching hour of midnight, which animates ghosts; neither is it necessary for the location to be the hallowed ground of some ancient churchyard, or burial place. Ghosts and other phantoms can show up at any time, day or night, taking many forms.

Haunted house

Haunted house

The Winchester Mystery House is reported to be haunted.

A haunted house is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased who may have been former residents or were familiar with the property. Parapsychologists attribute haunting to the spirits of the dead and the effect of violent or tragic events in the building's past such as murder, accidental death, or suicide.[1] More parsimonious explanations for the perception that a house is haunted include misinterpreting noises naturally present in structures, waking dreams, suggestibility, and the effect of toxic substances in environments that can cause hallucinations.
In 2005, Gallup polls conducted in three countries—the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom—showed that more people believe in haunted houses than any of the other paranormal items tested, with 37% of Americans, 28% of Canadians, and 40% of Britons believing.

Reportedly haunted houses

Legal aspects

In the case Stambovsky v. Ackley, the Supreme Court of New York, Appellate Division ruled in 1991 that a seller must disclose that a house has a reputation for being haunted when there is a fiduciary relationship or in cases of fraud or misrepresentation,[4] because such a reputation impairs the value of the house:
In the case at bar, defendant seller deliberately fostered the public belief that her home was possessed. Having undertaken to inform the public at large, to whom she has no legal relationship, about the supernatural occurrences on her property, she may be said to owe no less a duty to her contract vendee.[5]

Possible causes

According to science writer Terence Hines, cold spots, creaking sounds, and odd noises are typically present in any home, especially older ones, and "such noises can easily be mistaken for the sound of footsteps by those inclined to imagine the presence of a deceased tenant in their home."[6]
Skeptical investigator Joe Nickell writes that in most cases he investigated, he found plausible explanations for haunting phenomena, such as physical illusions, waking dreams, and the effects of memory. According to Nickell, the power of suggestion along with confirmation bias plays a large role in perceived hauntings. "As a house, inn, or other place becomes thought of as “haunted,” more and more ghostly encounters are reported" says Nickell, "When people are given to expect paranormal events, they tend to notice those conditions that would confirm their expectations."[7]
Toxicologist Albert Donnay believes that chronic exposure to substances such as carbon monoxide, pesticide, and formaldehyde can lead to hallucinations of the type associated with haunted houses. Donnay speculates on the connection between the prevalence of gas lamps during the Victorian era and turn of the century stories of ghost sightings and hauntings, describing it as the "Haunted House Syndrome".[8] Donnay says that carbon monoxide poisoning has been linked to haunted houses since at least the 1920s, citing a 1921 journal article published about a family who suffered headaches, auditory hallucinations, fatigue, melancholy, and other symptoms associated with haunted houses.[9]
Michael Persinger, Jason Braithewaite, and others, suggested that perceived apparitions, cold spots, and ghostly touches are perceptual anomalies caused by variations in naturally occurring or man-made magnetic fields. [10] However, a study by psychologist Chris French and others that attempted to replicate Persinger's findings found no link. [11]

 Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is perhaps one of the most haunted places in Scotland as it is connected to the Royal Mile by a network of underground tunnels. Many years ago a piper was sent to explore the tunnels and was told to keep playing so his progress could be tracked. However, halfway down the Royal Mile, the music suddenly stopped and the piper was never found. It is said the piper still walks the Royal Mile and sometimes the faint sound of music can often be heard from within the castle.[10][11] It is believed the castle is also haunted by a drummer who only appears when the castle is about to be attacked.[11][12]

 Edinburgh Vaults

The Edinburgh Vaults are some of the most haunted vaults in Europe. Tourist accountings of strange sightings and sensations have become numerous and have sparked interest for paranormal investigations. The television series Most Haunted and Ghost Adventures both aired an episode about the vaults to investigate the reports of paranormal activity beneath the city's South Bridge.[13][14]

 Greyfriars Kirkyard

Greyfriars Kirkyard is reportedly haunted with the evil spirit of George Mackenzie. The lawyer, who earned the nickname "Bluidy Mackenzie" vigorously pursued Covenanters and tortured them. Since 1990 the church has been the site of unexplained events two days after a "vagrant" had broken into his tomb to find shelter.[15][16]

 Mary King's Close

Mary King's Close is a now underground close in the Old Town area of Edinburgh where legend says that plague victims were trapped by the local councilmen and left to starve to death in an attempt to stop the spread of the plague.[17][18][19]

The ghost of Alexander Seton's first wife, Lilias Drummond, is said to haunt Pinkie House, sometimes accompanied by a child, as a "Green Lady". She is also said to haunt Fyvie Castle.[20][21]

 RAF Montrose

RAF Montrose is said to be haunted by the ghost of Desmond Arthur.[22][23][24][25]

 Stirling Castle

The green lady of Stirling Castle is said to be the ghost of one of Mary Queen of Scots servants. Mary herself has been said to be the identity of the ghost of a pink lady sighted here.[5][26]

Lady of the Lake

Real Ghost Stories

Lady of the Lake

My maternal grandfather grew up in a remote area of Nova Scotia, Canada in the 1930s. His mother passed away of a severe ear infection when he was quite young. In the area they lived in, there were no real doctors to prescribe antibiotics, which quite possibly could have saved her life. My grandfather's father remarried a woman whom I met as a teenager when she was in her late 90s.
The story I am about to relay has been in my family since I can remember. As a little boy of about 6 or 7, my grandfather didn't really have much supervision. As they weren't the wealthiest of folks, my grandfather's father spent many hours away from the house as a ferry captain. I no longer remember the name of the boat but I believe it is actually pictured on the Canadian dime.
My grandfather and his buddies one day decided to take a row boat out onto the nearby lake. They rowed to the middle of the lake and were messing around like little kids do when suddenly they dropped an oar into the lake. They paddled their hands to reach it. My grandfather reached for the oar and the boat started to tip. Much to all their surprise, a female hand rose out of the water and handed my grandfather back the oar! All the little boys sat quietly for a few minutes in shock. They scanned the water's surface to see if someone had possibly gone for a swim. There was no one in the water coming up for air. There were no other boats at the lake either. They rowed back to shore as quickly as they could and each ran home. My grandfather relayed the story to his step-mother who stared at him warily. In later years she confessed that she believed him to be telling the truth.
Not too long after my grandfather and his friends were back at the lake. They were standing on a bridge looking into the water when they could see stones being thrown into the water. The stones were coming from above them and seem to appear as if they were falling from the sky. My grandfather looked down into the water and there, just below the surface, was the image of a woman looking up at him. I don't have anymore details of what this woman looked like. It has long been believed in my family that the woman that handed him the oar and the woman under the water, were his mother looking out for him still from the other side.
On that same trip where I met my great-step-grandmother as a teenager, I was taken to the area where my grandfather grew up. It was a remote, wild, and beautiful area. I saw the lake where all this occurred. My grandfather passed away from cancer in the early 1970s. I was only 4 years old. I do not have much by way of personal memories of him but this one story of him as a brave little boy who had lost him Mom will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thanks for reading.

Gara-Gara Dapat Shift Malam

Gara-Gara Dapat Shift Malam

Published under ,

Halo saya Wisnu.

"Ahh biarlah, mungkin dianya ndak dengar".

From DB
I have told my story to many people, everyone who knows me actually. And though I was always hesitant to tell anyone, it was my husband who would always bring the topic up in front of anyone who hasn’t heard it.

I was a patient of Royal Victoria hospital in 1996.

So there I was walking the hall, just a little walk up and down the hall, minding my own business, I never chatted with anyone on that floor.

Then suddenly, this old lady who was standing beside one of the doorways of a room, holding (that long metal thing we drag with us which holds our intravenous drip in which a salted solution of some kind keeping us hydrated....sorry I don’t know the word for it). She spoke to me, and said “you really want to get out of here don’t you?”

I was a little freaked out by what she said, cause I had never seen her before (or after) and there was no possible way she could know what I was thinking.

And a strange feeling went through me, like, I just knew I shouldn’t be replying.... I just felt this.... For some strange reason I knew I shouldn’t be talking to her. The nurses station was close by and it was more like a feeling that they (nurses) shouldn’t be seeing me ‘talking’ with her.

So I just nodded my head, slightly.

She then told me “Straighten your back and walk as fast as you can in front of the nurses station. It’s going to hurt, but you’ll then be out in no time”.

The nurses station was but a dozen steps away. I took a deep breath, pulled myself as straight as I could, and walked as fast as I could. And yes, it hurt real bad.

But that afternoon the doctor came to see me and said I could go home :-)

It was amazing, cause I was not due out for some days, yet, by listening to this sweet old lady I was out the same day.

Back at home I couldn’t understand why I never talked to her, I felt like if I had talked to her the nurses would have seen me talking to a wall.

A few months later, I had to go back to that hospital for a routine follow up. But my appointment was at another floor.

But, as I tried going to that floor, I was told that something (elevators or a floor) was undergoing construction and so the elevator stopped at that floor, where I was after surgery. The first thing I saw was that ‘intravenous pole’, right where I saw the old lady.

That was just weird....like some sort of reminder.

Thanks for posting about the Royal Victoria. For many years my husband and I have always wondered what exactly had happened, and now we have our answer.

I had something else happen to me during that same stay, but nothing makes sense of it and I can’t understand it at all.

In bed, I woke up to a huge pool of blood, on my bed and my pajamas. Thinking my stitches had opened I rang the nurses. One nurse came, then a second, then a third :( they were baffled. My bandage was intact, no blood anywhere on my skin. So they decided to remove my bandage, thinking perhaps there was a leak somewhere around it. Once they removed it everything was fine.

I wasn’t bleeding from anywhere, it was so very strange. My entire body showed no sign of blood at all, yet my pajamas and bed was full.

Later, after some blood work, the doctor found I had dangerously low anemia, and I needed 2 pints of transfusion.

Whatever it was, I’m fine :) and I feel like it was a good thing, for some odd reason it may have saved my life.

Just a Visitor

Just a Visitor

by
For anyone who's read my encounters, you've heard me mention my friend Kat. Kat is a sensitive to people's aura's, and to the presence of other worldly entities. And I had been long told of experiences she and her younger sister have had in their home. It's the only home they've ever lived in, so naturally it's saturated with energy.

I had spent the night at Kat's house before, and always slept in her room and only had one experience. While lying on the blow up mattress on the floor, with her out cold, I woke up out of no where. For no reason. I didn't have to use the rest room, there had been no noise, and there still wasn't any noise. I have no idea why I woke up, but I had. Trying to go back to sleep, this horrible smell began to waft around the room. The only thing I can liken it to, is a skunk. But I'm told skunks don't live in Florida. So I don't know. It lasted for awhile, and then once I got up and did use the bathroom, came back and laid down, it stopped. I was able to go back to sleep.

This particular night however, Megan wasn't home and since Kat hadn't been able to alert her parents to my being there, they hadn't put out the blow up mattress. Rather than wake her parents with the noise of the pump, I suggested I sleep in Megan's room. Now Megan isn't as sensitive to presences as Kat is, but she has had her fair share of run in's. The last one I was told about before I slept over was the sound of what they described as medical gloves being snapped, and the strong smell of rubbing alcohol. Needless to say this did little to bolster my confidence in actually sleeping in there. But her parents have been really nice to me, almost adopting me as one of their own children, so I didn't want to be horrible by waking them up at 2am.

So I fluffed up Megan's pillows, straightened up her sheets, moved ALL the objects off her bed (typical 17 yr old)and after turning the lights out laid there for a minute. It was all silent. Deathly silent. I don't know why, but I felt the need to whisper out into the dark, "Hi, you don't know me, but I'm just a visitor here. I'm not megan, so please don't be mean to me. I just want to sleep until daylight and then you can have your space back I promise."

With that I rolled over and snuggled under the comforter. I drifted off to sleep, but apparently not for long. I'm not sure how long I'd been asleep but I woke up to what sounded like dress shoes, standing in the middle of the room, just turning in a circle as if surveying the room looking for something. I didn't dare open my eyes or move. I barely breathed until it stopped. I felt, not so much scared as uncomfortable, because I knew about these spirits and I felt as though I was invading their space. Only with being in Megan's room.

Once it stopped I ventured to shift my legs a little to face the wall, and drifted back to sleep. Somewhere between sleep and awake, I was laying on my back, and distinctly felt a touch on my upper arm, as if someone was holding me there. Not against the mattress or against my will or anything. But just resting their hand on my upper arm. I didn't feel any light coming through the blinds so I knew it couldn't be morning yet. So I opened my eyes to nothing, and the touching sensation was gone. I'm not sure if the sound I made was considered human or not, it could be akin to a childish whine of frustration, and snuggling back under the comforter, all the way, head and everything, tried to go back to sleep.

Later, I opened my eyes on impulse and saw light shining through the blinds. I'd made it through the night, not really any worse for wear but definitely more of a believer in the presence of spirits in Kat's house if I had had any doubt before. I greeted her mother in the morning who came in the room looking for Megan's laundry. She apologized if she had woken me up and I informed her I'd been awake for quite awhile.

I told Kat about my experiences and she nodded. She didn't seem to shocked or surprised, not that I expected her to be honestly. Then I left a note in Megan's room on her bed telling her what had happened, and that I could sympathize with her now about being visited by such a wide variety of spirits.

As odd as it sounds, I look forward to going back and sleeping in Megan's room again to see if anything happens to me. I'm not afraid as I once was, of their house anyways. My house is another story. I don't know what spirit tried to scare the bejesus out of my niece, but I don't appreciate them. If they want to get MY attention that's one thing, but leave my niece alone.

Classical Vortex

This ghost photo was sent by Samantha Farrow of thymeforsaffron@yahoo.com.
Samantha said, "I was rummaging through a crate of pictures the other day, when I found these pictures. The while bends of light look similiar to some on your page, so I was wondering if you think these might really be photos of vortexes. The others were taken one summer in Pocohontas, WV -- an old, mostly abandoned, 'coal-mining' town that's almost in complete decay now. I went to photograph the abandoned building, shops, and houses -- most very, very strange and creepy within and without."
Dr. Dave's Notes:
Notice the classical shape of this vortex -- it is wider at the top and smaller at the bottom as it moves away from the lens. This resembles the very first vortex Sharon captured back in 1996 and became our first photo posted on our web site.

The Ghost of Silver Run

The Ghost of Silver Run

by
The Ghost of Silver Run.

Through a small isolated village in West Virginia called ‘Silver Run,’ runs a stretch of railroad track which is famous for repeated sightings of a female specter. During the 19th and 20th century, the stretch of track belonged to the B & O Railroad company, however the company no longer exists and the route has since fallen into disrepair. The stretch between Clarksburg and Parkersburg was approximately 90 miles long, and engineers who did the journey during the nighttime reported strange sightings.

According to an eye witness account from a 19th century engineer, the ghost of Silver Run is real. One night, while the engineer was doing his midnight run, he came around a bend and was approaching tunnel #19. Suddenly, he saw a girl with ‘pitch-black hair and bloodless skin,’ who was wearing a light colored gown, standing at the entrance to the tunnel. The man was afraid that the girl may have been a sleep walker from one of the near-by homes. He gave it all he could to stop the train, meanwhile the girl never looked at him or took notice of him. The train neared closer and closer, an impact was imminent and unavoidable. However, at the last second the girl screamed and shot straight into the air. Regardless, the man was spooked and stopped the train. He got out and checked for a body, or blood; anything to indicate that an actual person had been there. He found nothing.

This man was not the first engineer to report something like this, nor was he the last. After this sighting was heard about around the railroad community, another engineer by the name of O’Flannery, voiced his plan on what he would do if he saw the ghost himself. He said he not going to stop, but to go full speed ahead. One night the opportunity presented itself, and he did just as he promised. He saw the girl scream, and she she appeared to shoot straight up in the air like a white bat. At the end of his run, he pulled up at the 6th Street Station in Parkersburg, as he got out the station was in a flurry of activity. He asked what was going on. One of the railroaders told him that as he passed various stations, telegraph reports were sent out warning other stations that there was a girl riding on the front of the engine. In other words, the joke was on him.

Today the tunnel still exists, though it is overrun by weeds and foliage. Sightings in recent years have been scant, however there have been a few sightings in the late 20th century. One sighting involved a man and a woman who were hiking, and just so happened to venture into the tunnel on foot, when the couple saw the girl directly in front of them. They ran and would later hear about the famed ‘Ghost of Silver Run.’

There is no consensus on who the girl was to begin with, however there are some stories about what her circumstances may have been before she perished. Some accounts say that the girl was actually a young woman who was betrothed to a man in a distant city, who was afraid of riding on trains. Allegedly the girl had with her a gift from her fiance, a gorgeous necklace. Nobody is sure what happened next, however some believe that a jealous suitor followed her into the train, and threw her off, killing her. Other accounts say that she simply jumped off, however she had apparently been writing in her journal up until the very last minute. Her body was never located.

The Haunted Mansion is a 2003 American comedy horror family film based on the attraction of the same name at Disney theme parks. The film was directed by Rob Minkoff, written by David Berenbaum and stars Eddie Murphy, Terence Stamp, Jennifer Tilly, Marsha Thomason, and Nathaniel Parker. It was released on November 26, 2003 and is Disney's fifth film based on an attraction at one of its theme parks, following Tower of Terror (1997), Mission to Mars (2000), The Country Bears (2002) and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) (the latter being the first installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series).

 Plot

Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is a workaholic real estate agent who has little time for his family, wife Sara (Marsha Thomason), thirteen-year-old daughter Megan (Aree Davis), and ten-year old son Michael (Marc John Jefferies). After missing his own wedding anniversary to seal a business deal, Jim promises his family to go on a weekend away to a nearby lake. Sara is contacted by the occupants of Gracey Manor, located in the bayou swamps of New Orleans, and an eager Jim drags his family along to do business at the house. They meet Master Edward Gracey (Nathaniel Parker), his stern butler Ramsley (Terence Stamp), and other staff Emma (Dina Waters) and Ezra (Wallace Shawn). Master Gracey invites the family to stay the night when a rainstorm floods the river. Jim is taken to the library by Ramsley; he becomes trapped in a secret passageway. Michael and Megan encounter a "ghost ball" which leads them to the mansion's attic where they find a portrait of a woman resembling Sara. Sara meets Master Gracey who explains that his ancestor's lover Elizabeth Henshaw (also portayed by Marsha Thomason) seemingly committed suicide via poison, and his ancestor followed suit via hanging.
However, Jim encounters gypsy woman Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly), whose head is encased in a crystal ball. After briefly being scared away, Jim and his children learn that all of the mansion's residents are actually ghosts, cursed to be trapped in the mansion until Master Gracey and Elizabeth's ghosts are reunited, and Master Gracey believes that Sara is his lover reincarnated. In order to break the curse, Madame Leota sends the Evers family, minus Sara, into the mansion's cemetery and to a mausoleum to fetch a key that Madame Leota claims is required for "the truth to be known". Jim and Megan locate the key, but awaken all of the mausoleum's undead inhabitants; they escape unharmed thanks to Michael overcoming his arachnophobia and rescuing them. Madame Leota points the family to a trunk in the attic, where Jim finds an old letter from Elizabeth to Edward with the promise of marriage, revealing that her suicide was false. Ramsley appears and reveals that he murdered Elizabeth to prevent Master Gracey from abandoning his home and heritage. To hide the truth, he traps the children in a trunk and literally throws Jim out of the mansion, the curse on the mansion 'healing' any damage caused when Jim attempts to break back in through the windows.
Master Gracey reveals to Sara his ghostly self, and obsessively believes she is Elizabeth. Ramsley approaches Sara and blackmails her into marrying Master Gracey for the sake of her children. During the wedding ceremony, Ramsley poisons Sara's drink so that she will die and return as a ghost and end the curse. Madame Leota gives Jim the confidence to ram his BMW into the house- thus causing so much damage that the curse cannot repair it before he enters the house-, save his children and confront the ghosts. He gives the letter to Master Gracey, revealing him the truth about Elizabeth's death, and Master Gracey confronts Ramsley for murdering Elizabeth. An enraged Ramsley tries to summon wraiths to kill the group, but this backfires as a fiery dragon emerges from the fireplace and drags Ramsley into the mouth of hell for his actions. Ramsley seizes Jim and attempts to pull him down with him to hell for ruining his plans, but then Master Gracey rescues Jim while Ramsley is dragged into hell forever. Sara succumbs to the poison, but the ghost ball arrives and possesses her body, revealing itself to be Elizabeth's ghost. Elizabeth and Master Gracey kiss, and Sara is revived. In gratitude and seeking redemption, Master Gracey gives the Evers the deed to the house, allowing them to do what they want with it as long as they remain happy. The ghosts all depart the mansion and move on to heaven.
The film ends with the Evers driving off on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, accompanied by Madame Leota and four singing busts who end the film with their own rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In". After the end credits, Madame Leota bids farewell to the audience and invites them to join the dead.

 Production

The mansion scenes were filmed at Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita, California. The main building was constructed over a period of weeks while the cupola and chimneys on the top of the mansion were computer generated. The paperboy in the opening scene is the nephew of the director, Rob Minkoff. A Hidden Mickey is briefly seen when Ramsley pours the poison in the goblet of wine during the wedding.
The costume and special effects designers wanted the ghost characters to become "more dead" the farther they were from the mansion. Note that while Ezra and Emma look human in the house, their leaving it causes them to become blue and transparent. The zombies in the mausoleum are the "deadest", as they are farthest away.
This was the first movie to air on Disney Channel to contain any profanity beyond "Hell" or "Damn" for years. It also aired the phrase "Big ass termites!", which was stated by Murphy. In addition, the scene where Edward hangs himself is usually cut from the broadcasts.[citation needed]
The design of the mansion is loosely based on Disneyland's version of The Haunted Mansion while the iron/glass conservatory was based on Walt Disney World's version of the ride.
In the opening scene of the film, Nathaniel Parker had great difficulty trying to carry Elizabeth up the staircase, which is shown on the expressions of his face. This was due to her slippery silk dress.

Just Passing Through

 Just Passing Through

When I was in high school, I was part of the choir. I was one of the more important members, as I span three voice parts. For choir, there was a performance before Christmas and one before school let out for summer.

I believe this happened my sophomore year, the night of the Christmas recital. For some inane reason, I decided to put on my uniform in the living room. I don't know why I did, because that wasn't my style. Anyway, I realized I had grabbed the wrong socks. Stupid, I know, but it was a Catholic school with a uniform. Socks are important.

I went back to my room which is at the other end of the house, down the main hallway. I got the proper socks, and turned to leave.

Before I continue, a bit of explanation. I live in a ranch-style house. All three bedrooms and one bathroom are down the far end of the hallway. My bedroom that I shared with my brother of previous post fame and my parents' bedroom at at the very end. The rooms that branch off the middle of the hallway are my older sister's room on one side and the bathroom directly opposite it on the other side. Facing out of my bedroom door and down the hall, my sister's room is on the right. She had a large armoire against the hallway-sharing-wall, and a mirror on the same side as the door. As a result, if her door was open (and it was most of the time), I could see the mirror, and it roughly faced my bedroom door.

I don't know what compelled me to look at her doorway. But as I was leaving my bedroom, I did. In the mirror, and only in the mirror, I caught a glimpse of a girl. Well, a teenager, perhaps. Only the back half of her as she walked. But she had long, dark hair. I myself have rather light hair (the picture in my profile page is a dye job; I'm actually blond). The only person with dark hair is my dad, and he's 6'2" and certainly doesn't look like a teenaged girl, nor is his hair ever longer than about 3" in any spot.

She just walked in. I wasn't scared at all, nor particularly surprised. I actually muttered out loud, "I don't have time for this" and went back to the living room to properly outfit my feet for the concert. Yes, I turned my head and looked into her room when I passed, and, as you can imagine, no one was in there, not even my sister. She was off at college in another county at the time.

I've never seen her again. I suspect that she was just "passing through" as it were, and we happened to cross paths long enough to me to see her. Why my sister's room is an interesting question, though. In high school, my sister decided to convert to Wicca. But she wasn't and still isn't a "good witch" by any stretch of the term. I don't believe what I saw to be evil, though. And I've never investigated ley lines or magnetic fields in my house. Overall, my house is pretty...vacant of energies.

It was still weird to see, though.
